Bloomington, MN – The YMCA of the North, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, and Three Rivers Park District will host the Resilinator adventure race for buddy pairs on Saturday, October 28 and Sunday October 29 at Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington, MN.

For the first time in American history, kids have a shorter life expectancy than their parents due to factors such as a sedentary lifestyle, mental health, and declining participation in organized sports. The YMCA aims to change this with fun, challenging and unique activities like the Resilinator race.

This year’s theme is a SPOOKTACULAR for kids and families. Buddy pairs race - while being tethered together - through fun and challenging obstacles to earn a finisher’s medal and new confidence and grit. Buddies can be friends, siblings or a child with a parent, mentor, grandparent, coach or trusted adult. Racing in a buddy pair provides the participants the opportunity to work together by creating trust and communication to solve the challenges and obstacles they face throughout the course.

“My favorite part was running through the huge leaf pile before the finish line,” said Josh, a 10-year old racer. “The race was hard but really fun. I can’t wait to do it again!”

“Y Adventure Lab makes sweating fun for kids,” said Dr. Tracy Hall from South Lake Pediatrics. “Once they get involved, they don’t want to stop.”

“Pediatricians across the Twin Cities prescribe the Resilinator to help kids get active,” said Glen Gunderson, president of the YMCA of the North. “The YMCA is proud to provide unique wellness opportunities for kids with the support of partners across our community.”

Bloomington, MN – The YMCA of the North, a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, will host a metro-wide Minnesota Vikings flag football tournament for 300 youth from ages 6 to 14 on Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8.

The event is the culmination of the eight-week season where participants engaged in sports programs at their local Ys. All teams will play on Saturday, with the Semi-Final/Championship games held on Sunday.

“YMCA sports are built on the idea that everyone has an opportunity to play,” said Glen Gunderson, president of the YMCA of the North. “YMCA athletes come from all backgrounds to unite as a team and participants, develop lifelong friendships and engage in healthy, positive competition.”

*Medals awarded on Sunday, October 8 to the first, second and third place teams for each division (grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-8).
