At ForEverest, participants will use their custom passport to experience fun activity stations that help them fuel their body, build personal belief, be in awe of nature and have fun along the journey.

Ultra-Climbing Option: For the serious hikers, runners, and challengers that want to climb the equivalent of 12,000 feet of the journey from Basecamp to the Summit of Mt. Everest, the Ultra-Climber option also includes the Camp Edition experience, with 12 hours to complete your goal.

“There’s a universal intrigue about Mount Everest, and what it takes to reach the Summit. ForEverest gives us a taste of the Everest experience, and it’s fun for all ages,” said Betsy Grams, vice president of Adventure at the Y.

ForEverest offers a path to the summit for everyone, from hikers to runners, with fun and interesting learning opportunities along the way.

The registration cost is $18 per person for the Camp Edition, and $30 for the Ultra-Climbing Experience, with discounts for registering two or more climbers. Rather, they start the day by working in small groups to identify issues that impact their local community. Youth advocates from Minneapolis will likely end up focusing on different issues than youth advocates from Big Lake or Duluth, for example. All participants attend a one-hour, youth-led “Advocacy Best Practices” workshop and then have the opportunity to practice those skills in small pre-arranged meetings with their local elected official(s).

“Many people don’t realize that legislators welcome the chance to meet with their constituents, including young constituents,” said Amy Anderson, executive director for the YMCA Center for Youth Voice. “Our goal with this program is to teach students how to be effective advocates and how to engage with decision makers to bring about change that is meaningful to them.”

WHO:
YMCA of the North’s Center for Youth Voice

WHAT:
Youth Day at the Capitol

WHERE:
Minnesota History Center on 345 W Kellogg Boulevard in St Paul, MN 55102 and the Minnesota State Capitol on 75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard in St Paul, MN 55101

WHEN:
Monday, April 17, 2023 at 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Media Invited:

Monday, April 17, 9 -11:30 a.m., at Minnesota History Center and 11:45 a.m.– Noon students will march from the Minnesota History Center to the steps of the Minnesota State Capitol for a photo with several constitutional officers.

About the YMCA of the North

The YMCA of the North is a leading nonprofit dedicated to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Once I came to Beacons, I found people who could help me find opportunities, I am doing much better in my classes and I get to lead and create the campus experience I want and know my peers also want.”

Beacons engages young people as leaders and learners by transforming schools into active youth centers afterschool and in the summer, providing free high quality educational, recreational, and leadership development activities opportunities to more than 3,000 kindergarten–12th grade young people and their families at our 16 Beacons Centers located in neighborhoods in North, Northeast, and South Minneapolis, and Richfield. Beacons youth attend schools a week more per year than their peers and graduate at higher rates.

This Beacons Next Generation innovation was made possible through private philanthropy and the support of the Y of the North, Minneapolis College, and the Beacons Network (including the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities, Community Education, Minneapolis Public Schools, Richfield Public Schools, and the YWCA of Minneapolis) to empower young people beyond high school and eliminating barriers that limit their potential to learn, grow, and thrive.

For more information, visit www.BeaconsMn.org.

About Minneapolis College

Minneapolis College is a member of the Minnesota State Colleges & Universities system and offers students more than 100 liberal arts, career and technical programs designed to prepare them for good jobs in high-demand professions or to transfer to a four-year college or university.
