YMCA News Archive https://ynorth-dev.oneeach.net/ en 'Kidarod' offers outdoor fun in Maple Grove https://ynorth-dev.oneeach.net/news/2018/02/23/12236/kidarod_offers_outdoor_fun_in_maple_grove <span>&#039;Kidarod&#039; offers outdoor fun in Maple Grove</span> <span><span>jeffrey.needham</span></span> <span>Fri, 02/23/2018 - 00:00</span> <div class="field-image"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/2018-07/news-kare-11-logo.jpg" width="185" height="120" alt="KARE 11" class="img-responsive" /> </div> <p>MAPLE GROVE, Minn. -- It's an opportunity for kids to get outside in the snow and run, hike, slide, pull and climb.</p> <p>The <a href="http://www.cyclehealth.org/events/#winterz">Kidarod</a>, a winter foot race for kids, is taking place Feb. 24 from 4-7 p.m. at Fish Lake Regional Park in Maple Grove.</p> <p>The event is put on by CycleHealth, a kid-powered wellness initiative of the YMCA of the North.</p> <p>The race combines everything from snowshoeing to mushing to sledding, all to get kids active in the cold winter months.</p> <p>“We are thrilled to provide unique wellness opportunities for kids,” said Glen Gunderson, president and CEO of the Y in a press release. “When we empower young people to develop healthy habits early, we set them up for future success.”</p> <p>This year, organizers have also added a family hour of racing. At 4:00 p.m., families can race together for an hour. All are free for YMCA members.
