Maple Syrup Q&A with Walker Nyenhuis, Program Director at Ihduhapi

Can you give me a brief description of the evaporator demo

We will be boiling this season’s sap in our woodfired evaporator throughout the Festival to show attendees how syrup is made. It takes approximately 40 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup!

How much maple syrup does Ihduhapi produce each year?

The volume varies year to year based on weather on volunteer efforts. Our efforts are primarily educational, so it’s less about the quantity for us, and more about teaching folks about the experience of identifying trees, tapping, and evaporating!

Can I buy maple syrup at the event?

Unfortunately, no, we do not produce enough syrup to sell it. However, we will have a tasting activity that compares real maple syrup to commercial syrup.

The description says "and more"- are there any other activities that we should know about?

Yes! Our barn team will be hosting the second annual petting zoo in Happy Hollow (they are bringing the goas!). Folks can also enjoy concessions from our Dining Hall, walk the trails, and try out the Unlock It! scavenger hunt.
